Comprehensive report on the activities carried out in 2024 within the framework of the “Energy Sector Security Research of Georgia” project

The “Energy Sector Security Research of Georgia” project has made significant progress this year in order to strengthen Georgia’s energy security.

Below is a detailed report on the tasks carried out in 2024, highlighting the main activities, milestones and findings.

Tasks carried out:

The project successfully implemented a number of activities aimed at researching and assessing various aspects of energy security.

1. Comprehensive analysis of the legislative framework and energy security risks. This task included an in-depth study and analysis of national and international legislative acts, regulatory norms and energy security risks. The following subtasks were performed:

  • National and international legislative acts, regulatory norms were studied and analyzed;
  • An in-depth analysis of the impact of tariff policy on ensuring energy security was carried out;
  • Risks related to cybersecurity and climate change were studied and analyzed;
  • Existing research and concepts in the energy sector and the impact of the growing trend of cryptocurrency production on energy security were studied.
  • Various assessments were carried out in terms of the country's energy security (Georgia's Energy Security Assessment using the MOSES methodology);

2. Study of best practices and approaches in the energy sector. In terms of energy and energy security, proven methods and approaches, best international practices and legislative norms were studied in the direction of ongoing and planned reforms in the country and the world.

3. Participation in the international conference “International Conference on Soil, Water, Air, Energy, Ecology and Environment (ICSWAEEE-24)”, September 11-12, 2024 in Berlin, Germany, with the research paper ,,Energy Accessibility: Strategies for Equitable Energy Access in Georgia”.

4. Participation in the "International Conference on Industrial, Production & Systems Engineering (ICIPSE-2024)", November 23-24, 2024 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, with the research paper "Georgia's Hydropower Potential: A Context of Energy Security and Sustainable Development".

5. Published a scientific article entitled “Energy Accessibility: Strategies for Equitable Energy Access in Georgia” in the Journal of Electrical Systems (JES), indexed by SCOPUS and Thomson Reuters. The paper highlighted strategies for ensuring equitable access to energy in the energy landscape of Georgia.
